HOW IN ADVANCE DO I NEED TO BOOK?
I would recommend booking a few weeks or months in advance if you are thinking of coming during peak season (June - August) to avoid disappointment.  Outside that period, you can leave it to the last-minute.  Feel free to call me on arrival.

DO I HAVE TO TAKE LESSONS CONSECUTIVELY?

No. You can take your lessons on any day to fit your holiday and activity schedule.  However, for beginners, I recommend that the first 3 lessons are taken consecutively to maximise your learning potential.

WHAT TIME DO THE LESSONS USUALLY START?

Lessons take place in the morning (start time varies between 08.00am – 10.30am) and in the afternoon (start time varies between 01.30 pm – 03.00pm).  Lesson times vary due to wave and tide conditions, so I will give you your start and pick up times for each day.

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE AGE OF STUDENTS?

There is no average age.  Most people who come here are professionals in their twenties, thirties or forties but I teach people of all ages (including children).  Ultimately, I will try to group individuals according to their surf ability.

HOW DO I PAY?

You can pay the fee at the end of each day’s surf.  I accept most international foreign currencies but prefer being paid in local currency, which is Indonesia Rupiah (IDR).  It is approximately 10,000 IDR to US$ 1.  You can change money at the airport or in Kuta which offers a better exchange rate.  I can recommend an authorised money exchanger with a good exchange rate, if you require.

IS TRAVEL INSURANCE REQUIRED?

Travel insurance is compulsory for all my trips.  I require that, at a minimum, you are covered for medical expenses including emergency repatriation.  I strongly recommend that the policy also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects.  www.worldnomads.com has affordable travel insurance.

CAN I RENT A SURFBOARD FROM YOU?

Surf equipment is not included in the cost of a surf lesson or surf safari.  If you need a surfboard, I can arrange rental of an appropriate surfboard.  Typically, surfboards can be rented for US$5 per day.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO WEAR?

For surfing, you can wear a rash top and board shorts all year round.  You do not need a wetsuit.  You may want to bring booties for surf trips on the reef.  Beginner surfers will not have lessons where booties would be necessary.  Off the surf, shorts, T-shirts and flip-flops are the norm.

WHAT IS BALI’S CLIMATE?

Bali has a mild tropical climate the whole year round.  Air temperature varies between 28C°/82F° and 29C°/84F°.  The water temperature varies between 27C°/81F° and 29C°/84F°.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT?

Bali is one of the most consistent surfing destinations in the world.  It is possible to get rideable waves 365 days a year.  But the best season for quality surf and guaranteed sunshine is from May to September.  This is the best time for surfing on the Kuta-Uluwatu west side of the island.  The wet summer season starts from late November and ends in March.  Surfing is best on the Nusa Dua-Sanur east side of the island during those months.  Although rain averages 2 inches a day in January and February, there can be weeks of sunny weather with perfect surf.

DO YOU ARRANGE FLIGHTS?

You will need to arrange your own flights.  But try AirAsia, Jetstar, Malaysia Airlines and Virgin Airlines, which often have good deals.

DO I NEED A VISA TO ENTER BALI?

Entering Indonesia without a visa is possible now for nationals of the following 11 countries and territories: Brunei Darussalam, Chile, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Morocco, Peru, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.  Citizens of the above countries will be given a stay permit for 30 days free of charge.

A visa can be obtained on arrival by nationals of the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, South Africa, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and the United States of America.  A visa is valid for 30 days.  A visa costs US$ 25.

Nationals of ALL countries planning to stay for more than 30 days in Bali have to apply for an appropriate visa (tourist, business, social-cultural, etc.) at an overseas Indonesian Consulate or Foreign Mission prior to arrival.

Note, when flying out of Bali, you will need 150,000 Indonesia Rupiah for departure tax at the airport.
